County Council Offices, Northallerton

The proposed County Council buildings at Northallerton have been the subject of a competition which was decided the other day. The invited competitors were Messrs. Demaine & Brierley, of York; Mr. Hodgson Fowler, of Durham ; Mr. C. J. Ferguson, of Carlisle ; Messrs. Clark & Moscrop, of Darlington ; and Messrs. Smith & Broderick, of Hull. Mr. Waterhouse, R.A., was the assessor, and he reported in favour of No. 2 design, and the County Council at their meeting on the 6th inst. adopted Mr. Waterhouse's recommendation. The authors of the winning design are Messrs. Demaine & Brierley, of York. [British Architect 15 February 1895 page 109]
