OPENING OF GRAND NEW PAVILION - A brand-new and grand pavilion now rears itself on the Ramsbottom Cricket Club enclosure, having just disposed the old erection which served the club so long and which at the end of last season was marked out for the onslaught of the demolishing hand in accordance with a scheme which saw admirable and auspicious completion last Saturday afternoon. That scheme was hit upon some time ago when, noting the growing needs which sprang up on all hands for a ground pavilion affording greater accommodation, the club officials decided to replace the old pavilion with one offering the accommodation then lacking. Grasping opportunities which presented themselves little more twelve months back, the club arranged a bazaar with a view to raising funds to cover the cost which the erection of the new pavilion would incur and as the result of much enthusiasm the effort produced £300 for building fund purposes,

The pavilion will serve both a useful and decorative purpose, for under the colouring of bronze green Its ornamentation will be complete. The premises are on the usual plane of elevation. with approach slightly terraced and alternated with chairs. At one end are a couple of handsome garden seats, of which the club has been made the gift, by Yates Brothers, ironmongers. of this town. They are sure io be much sought after on sunny days. Mr. J. T. Gill. the ex-treasurer, has made the club the recipient, of three framed cricket groups, and these were hung on Saturday. The pavilion is of the following dimensions:  Length 79 feet, width 30 feet, including a 4 feet wide covered verandah in the front of the pavilion. In the centre there is an open hall 30 feet. by 20 feet. and facing the front, on each side are players' dressing rooms 21 feet 5 inches by 12 feet, with the necessary accommodation at the back. Opening on to the tennis lawn at the north end is a tennis room 18 feet 6 inches by 10 feet 6 inches with necessary accommodation at the rear. A grandstand, 14 feet by 10 feet, overlooks the cricket ground. There is a store room at back of the open hall, and at the south end a tea room 17 feet 6 inches by 9 feet.Messrs. Rothwell and Taylor did the painting, Mr. Henry Wolstenholme the joinery. and Mr. Rostron the slating. [Ramsbottom Observer - Friday 22 April 1904 page 5]
