In April, 1860, a revised set of plans was submitted by Messrs Holden and Son, of Manchester, estimating the cost without boundary walls as £532. In October, 1860, Mr. Isaac Holden and his son met the Trustees regarding these plans for which Mr. Coope's tender was £604 less £20 for materials. In November, 1860, the contract was signed and the building in the Gothic style of architecture, was begun.  In July, 1861, the Trustees held their first meeting in the School. Mr. Holden (the architect) reported the building to be satisfactory and complete. The Trustees decided that the name was to be, “The Dixon Green Charity and Grammar School”.  In December, 1861, all payments were cleared. The accounts show that Mr. Coope received £600 and the architect's fee was £31 10s-0d.
