Situated at Denton Holme, a rising industrial suburb to the south of the town, it was supposedly the largest cotton mill of its date in England. Built of the local red sandstone, it is seven storeys high and 225 feet long, 58 feet wide and 83 feet high. The style is strictly utilitarian comprising twenty-two identical bays and a tapering chimney 300 feet in height. Fireproof construction with cast iron beams and columns and shallow brick vaults. The engineer Fairbairn was responsible for the structural design.
