Built at the east entrance to Bramall Hall Park to accommodate the head gardener. The architect was G F Armitage, who was at the same time making alterations to the Hall under the direction of the new owner Charles Nevill. [Richard Fletcher]

"The exterior charms of Bramall have been supplemented by the erection of half-timbered lodges at the entrances to the park in which it stands. The picturesque buildings, built and arranged by Mr Armitage from designs by Mr Nevill, peep out from the ‘ancestral trees’, and greatly add to the beauty and completeness of the property. They exactly accord with the design of the ancient hall to which they act as sentinels." [The Cabinet Maker and Art Furnisher, 1 December 1884]
