NEW CHURCH AT LLANGOLLEN - Quietly and unostentatiously the picturesque ceremony was performed last week of the cutting of the first sod for the erection of a new English Wesleyan Church at Llangollen. The new structure, which will materially add to the artistic features of the Vale of Llangollen, will be built of Cefn free-stone, with a well-proportioned spire, and will be of the Gothic style of architecture. The new edifice will cost £3,600. The site, which is situated on the banks of the Dee, was generously given by the Rev. J. S. Haworth, FRGS, a prominent local Wesleyan, and formerly of Manchester. Mr. Haworth who has further given £500 towards the scheme, gracefully performed the sod-cutting function, and offered a few congratulatory remarks. [Welsh Coast Pioneer 16 January 1903 page 14]

Considerable progress is, we find, being made with the erection of the New English Wesleyan Church, on the Victorian-path, opposite the Railway Station. The architects are Messrs. Morley & Son, of Bradford and London, and the contract foe the building (£ 2,736 11s. 6d.) is let to Messrs Lewis Brothers, of Wrexham. Extensive preparations are now beng made for the stone-laying ceremony, which is fixed for Friday, February 27th, when the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Manchester and many other friends will take part. A great meeting will be held in the Pavilion in the evening, under the presidency of the Lord Mayor, when addresses will be given by the Rev. S. F. Collier, of the Manchester Mission, the Rev. T. J. Choate, chairman of the Liverpool district, and other well- known ministers and laymen. [Llangollen Advertiser 13 February 1903 page 4]

WESLEYANISM AT LLANGOLLEN. Friday was a red-letter day in the history of Wesleyanism in Llangollen, the occasion being the stone-laying ceremony in connection with the new English Wesleyan Church that is being erected on the Victorian Path, facing the river Dee, at a total cost of £4,000. The site, a most picturesquely-situated one, has been given by the Rev J. Sewell Haworth, formerly of Manchester, and the work is being carried forward with much expedition by Messrs Lewis Bros., of Wrexham, the architects being Messrs W. J. Morley and Son, Bradford and London. Friday's ceremony was made additionally noteworthy by the visit of the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Manchester, who received quite an ovation, when they left the train at Llangollen, from the large crowd assembled to welcome them. The site of the chapel is immediately opposite the station, on the opposite bank of the river, and at 3.30 the Rev Wm. Done (Wrexham) presided at the stone-laying ceremony, being supported on the platform by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, the Lady Mayoress, and others.  .... He then called upon the Lady Mayoress of Manchester (Mrs Royle), to lay the stone, alluding to the fact that she was a native of Llangollen, and that her family had taken a deep interest in Wesleyan. Methodism in the pleasant vale for many years. [Welsh Coast Pioneer 6 March 1903 page 15]
