Originally opened in the 1920s, Fairyland was a highly popular, magical children’s indoor dark ride and amusement centre located on Blackpool’s Central Promenade at its junction with Chapel Street, almost directly opposite the Central Pier. Here children would sail in swan- or dragon-shaped boats through tunnels and grottoes filled with mechanically animated scenes of fairies, elves, dwarves, and a spinning ballet dancer. On the first floor was an indoor roller-skating rink.

After the original two-story building was seriously damaged by fire in 1931, it was rebuilt in an Art Deco style. It was demolished in November 1970 by the local council for street improvements to Chapel Street. Am amusement arcade was subsequently erected on the reduced site.
