One of first mills to incorporate concrete joist floors, however, the external appearance of the six storey mill could not easily be distinguished from its iron-framed predecessors. Red brick and yellow terra cotta.  Designed to hold 90,000 spindles, the mill was to be electrically driven and the "Consequent steadiness and speed of the spindles will be of great advantage in production." Messrs Musgrave & Sons of Bolton will supply the steam turbine engines and the motors and remaining parts of the electrical driving are in the hands .... of Siemens Bros Ltd, electrical engineers. The mill replaced the former Brookside Mill, destroyed by fire in 1905.
