Sherwood won first prize, aged 24, for the competition for the Grosvenor Hotel and Arcade in Deansgate, Manchester. The scheme was unexectuted and by 1875 the land was in the ownership of the Grand Hotel and Safe Deposit Company (Manchester). See John Whichcord.
