Holy Trinity Parish Church, Church Road, Shaw, Oldham
CONSECRATION OF A CHURCH NEAR OLDHAM - Yesterday the Bishop of Manchester consecrated a new church at Shaw, near Oldham, to be called Holy Trinity Church. The building, which has been erected at a cost of £9,0000, of which amount £700 remains to be subscribed, consists of a nave with three aisles, chancel with two side aisles. The sittings consisting of open benches, provide accommodation for 746 persons. The style of architecture is the early gothic; the roof being open-timbered. The font, costing £75, has been paid for by subscriptions collected by the children of the Sunday school. His Lordship previously consecrated an additional plot of ground, consisting of 548 square yards, to be used as a burial ground. [Manchester Guardian 6 June 1871 page 5]
SHAW - On Trinity Monday the new parish church of Shaw, Lancashire, was consecrated. The architect is Mr. R. W. Drew, of Manchester (sic). The style is an early type of Decorated Gothic. The church consists of a central tower over the chancel, nave, with aisles 72 feet long, and 50 feet high to the ridge. The width of nave and aisles is 49 feet. The chancel is 39 feet. long. There are 750 sittings. The reredos is of Caen stone, richly carved. A cusped arch over the altar is intended to contain a mosaic, but at present a cartoon of the Resurrection, by Messrs. Heaton, Butler, and Bayne, occupies the space. The cost of the church is about £9,000. [Building News Volume 20, 23 June 1871 page 498]
