BIRKENHEAD. NEW INDEPENDENT CHAPEL OPENING. On Saturday afternoon last, a chapel, a splendid building, was opened in a convenient and respectful place. The building is located on the right-hand side of Clifton-road near the Borough-road at the junction with Rodney Street.   The site contains approximately 1700 square yards. The entrance to the place of worship is from Clifton Road, and to the scholar, vestries. and the chapel house from Rodney Street. It maintains the Gothic architecture. The building is 60 feet by 35 feet, with vestries on the outside, and the tby of the church. The two school houses are 87 feet 35 by 35 feet, and 50 feet by 30 respectively with provision to combine both rooms when needed. The chapel includes seating for 500 attendees. The pews of the best pitch pine are restored. The architect made a good provision to ventilate and warm the building. The contract for the paving and stone work was let to Mr Joseph Davies of this town, and the other branches of the work to Messrs. Nicholson and Ayre of Liverpool. The architect was Mr Richard Owen, Breck road, Liverpool. The foundation stone was laid down on the 20th of April, last year, by J. E. Jones, Yaw., Rock Ferry. [Y Goleuad 28th May 1881 p.5]
