Infants’ School Robert Hall Street Ordsall Salford
A NEW COUNCIL SCHOOL At the new infants’ school which the Salford Education Committee are building in Robert Hall Street, Trafford Road, a memorial stone was laid yesterday by Mr Councillor S H Lees, a member of the Education Committee. NEW SALFORD DAY SCHOOL - This afternoon, Mr. S. H. Lees, chairman of the Works and Buildings Sub-Committee of the Salford Education Committee, laid the memorial stone of the new Council School in Robert Hall-street. The new building will replace the existing Trafford Road branch infants' school in West Park-street, and also the infants' department of the existing Robert Hall-street School the accommodation provided by which will be available for the improvement of the girls' department.The new school contains a central hall and eight classrooms and will accommodate 418 scholars. The site was purchased for £2,990, and the cost of building will be about £5,000. The total cost, including furnishing, is estimated at £6,500. Mr. Lees. who was presented with a trowel by the architect, Mr. J. B. Broadbent, said there were now 19 Council schools in the borough, 15 Of the schools having been erected by the late School Board. The present building was part of a scheme for making more suitable accommodation in the Trafford Road and Ordsall district. The other portion of the scheme involved the erection of a school for infants in Nashville-street. [Manchester Evening News Wednesday 30 August 1911 page 4]
