THE LANCASHIRE & YORKSHIRE BANK NEW BLACKPOOL PREMISES - The Lancashire and Yorkshire Bank, Ltd. have transferred their business to their splendid and commodious new premises in Lytham Street, fronting the market, and the Blackpool branch is now installed in a manner suitable to the importance of their extensive business. The new premises have been very skilfully constructed and arranged. The whole of the ground floor is occupied by the bank. Entering through an elegant porch, floored with mosaic, and with a dado of polished granite, surmounted with screens of Honduras mahogany panelled with crystal plate glass, we reach the principal banking chamber, a handsome lofty room of 33 feet by 35 feet. The floor is done in a very tasteful design of mosaic. The lower part of the walls is wainscoted in choicely figured mahogany, which gains additional effect from the pure white decoration of the upper portions. Fluted columns between the windows support the beams of the ceiling, which is filled in with a very elegant design in relief. At the further end of the office there is a minor entrance from Back Church Street, and private doors which lead to the manager's room, the clerks' rooms, store-rooms, etc., and in the middle on the level of the bank floor is a specially constructed strong room, to contain the safes and books of the bank and the plate chests of its clients. Every arrangement that thought and experience could suggest has been adopted to meet the convenience of the customers and facilitate the work of the staff, who have long suffered from the manifestly inadequate accommodation of their late offices on Central Beach. The upper floors have been arranged in very convenient suites of offices and are approached by a separate entrance and a handsome, well-lit staircase. They have been named "Market Chambers." Throughout the premises the electric light and a modern hot water heating apparatus have been installed, excellent lavatories have been provided, and already the offices are all tenanted. S. and J. Whitehead have been the general contractors, Jacob Parkinson and Sons having dealt with the woodwork; Dodds and Levick with the plumbing; and W. F. Spencer, of Oldham, with the heating apparatus; and with Mr. R. B. Mather as the architect and supervisor of the work, must be congratulated on the results of their united labours, which are most creditable to all concerned. [Blackpool Times 15 May 1901 page 2]
