Manchester Collegiate Church (Cathedral): Galleries
By the early years of the nineteenth century Manchester Collegiate Church was in desperate need of increased seating accommodation. New galleries on column supports and family pews to the designs of Robert Goldsmith were therefore inserted in the nave. Other work to the fabric was undertaken by John Palmer about the same time.
Letter from Robert Goldsmith, Architect, to Robert Peel, Churchwarden, accompanying a 'survey of the church' [missing], thanking the churchwardens and clergy for their gentlemanlike behaviour towards him, and offering his further services should the need arise during the execution of his plans. The letter is sent from Goldsmith's offices in Ipswich, Suffolk. Date: 24 April 1813
