Manchester Geographical Society Building. 16 St Mary's Parsonage
The new house of the Society is in St Mary’s Parsonage and overlooks the open square. The design of the building is simple but dignified and very suitable for the purposes for which it is to be used. The materials selected for the front elevation are red pressed bricks relieved by buff terra cotta. The society’s rooms are at the top pf the building, and consist of a spacious members’ room, a library and a map room, museum, secretary’s office, clerks’ and other rooms. There is also a large lecture hall which will seat over 200 persons. It is fitted with a fine electric lantern, which has been completed and presented to the Society by Mr E W Mellor, one of the trustees. The buildings are from designs prepared by Messrs Sankey and Cubbon, architects, Manchester. [Manchester Guardian 20 October 1905 page 12]
