It was originally reported that the cinema was to be built for British News Theatres Ltd 174 Buckingham Palace Road SW, and in 1934 Kinograpgh Weekly reported the architect as Alistair McDonald. However, the scheme was not progressed and the site sold to Jacey Cinemas of Birmingham. They employed Cummings to prepare designs for the scheme as built.
