The Marcliff Kinema, Knutsford, Cheshire, opened on Thursday 7 November 1955 with an invitation performance.  Owned by Clifford Ogle, builder. of Poynton and Stockport, the Marcliff is the second kinema in the town. which has a population of nearly 6,000 persons. It occupies a site on the main thoroughfare, next to the entrance to the railway station.

Of clean straight-line design without any overbearing towering effect, the front elevation is of rustic brick pointed with white cement, a touch of colour being applied by the egg-shell surrounds of the two shops (one on each side of the main entrance) and the treatment in egg-shell green, primrose and black glass of the wall of the entrance to the foyer.  Seating is provided for 672 persons, all on the ground floor, the chairs being of the same type throughout and upholstered in green crushed velvet. The prices of admission are arranged according to the distance of the seats from the screen. Carpeting is mainly in green, whilst the main curtains are in gold material and the screen curtains in appliqued green art silk. Decorations are in a shaded hide effect, with three bowls worked in ornamental plaster and finished in gold. on each side walls of the proscenium. These bowls house lamps which project their rays on to the walls. For the main theatre lighting there are six ornamented rectangular cavities in the main ceiling illuminated by concealed amber Iamps. The proscenium opening is 33 feet wide and there is a stage 23 feet deep with two dressing-rooms. In the operating-room there are two Ross projectors and RCA High Fidelity sound equipment. A Hewittic rectifier is installed. H. McLellan. A.I.A.A„ of Woodsmoor Lane, Stockport. was the architect. [Kinematograph Weekly 14 November 1935 page 59]
