Mercantile Bank of Lancashire. (Colwyn Chambers), Mosley Street, Manchester
The report of the Directors of this bank to the 5th annual general meeting says; ...... The directors have acquired on favourable terms an eligible site at the corner of Mosley Street and York Street, where it is proposed to erect suitable bank buildings from the designs of Mr J G Sankey MA architect of this city.
The Mercantile Bank existed for 14 years 1890-1904. The building later became shops and offices and was partially converted to restaurant and bars in the 1970s. Demolition proposed in the 1980s. The building was gutted and refurbished by Orbit Developments 1991-2 with additional floors created in the roof.
