Methodist New Connection Chapel. Edward Street Oldham

LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF A CHAPEL AT OLDHAM – Yesterday (Friday) afternoon the foundation stone of a new chapel was laid by Thomas Noton Esq. The chapel will be built by the New Connexion Methodists. It will stand in a very good position at the corner of Edward Street, Werneth, fronting Manchester Street. The building is intended to be in the Italian style, built of stone and brick with a stone portico, corners and pediments. It will have a gallery all round and for some time the space under the gallery will be used for the scholars, as, at present, the schools that are intended to be erected will not be proceeded with. When complete it will afford accommodation for about 600 adults and 500 scholars. The cost is expected to be about £2,000. Messrs Pennington and Bridgen, of Manchester, are the architects and the contract for the building has been let to Mr Robert Neill of Manchester.
