NEW BOARD SCHOOL AT MILES PLATTING - The memorial stone of a new Board School in Nelson Street, Miles Platting was laid on Saturday afternoon by Dr Woodcock. ... The new schools would have accommodation for 450 infants and 620 boys and girls in the mixed school, or a total of 1,070. The cost, including £1,254 for the site was estimated at £12,000. On the ground floor would be located the infants’ school and lower standards, and on the upper floor the higher grades of scholars. On each floor there would be a large central hall, 112 feet long and 28 feet wide, surrounded by numerous well-lighted classrooms, fitted with all modern facilities for effective teaching. There would also be an extensive playground. The building would, in addition, be of service for educational purposes in the evenings, and they anticipated that in the neighbourhood very good work of a continuation character would be done among those who had to leave elementary schools early in order to seek employment. .... The contractors are Messrs W A Peters and Sons of Rochdale, and the work is being carried out under the supervision of Messrs Potts, Sons and Pickup, architects, Victoria Buildings.
