New chancel. Part of a bigger scheme for the total replacement of the church. Some details in the chancel are taken from Manchester Cathedral. Cost £7,000.

On Saturday the ceremony of laying the foundation-stone of a new chancel, organ-chamber, and vestries in connection with the parish church of Littleborough, Lancs., was performed. Of late years the church has been found too small, and Mr J. S. Crowther, architect, Manchester, was employed to prepare plans for the extension of the church by about 30 feet. The cost is estimated at £5,000. The church was consecrated in 1471. [Building News 8 March 1889 page 358]
