New Church, Islington Place, Salford
Although plans had been prepared in 1829, it was discovered that the proposed site was encumbered by some latent chief-rents, which, being in the hands of trustees, could not be bought up, and it therefore became necessary to look for a new site. The church was subsequently built in Acton Square.
Notice is hereby given that Plans of the intended NEW CHURCH to be built at Islington Place, Salford, may be seen and printed proposals obtained at the office of Messrs WRIGHT and CASSON, architects, New Bailey Street, Salford, on Monday next 26th inst; and all persons desirous of promoting this object either by donations or subscribing for pews are respectfully requested to make early application. Salford October 21 1829.
NEW CHURCH IN SALFORD - On Wednesday last the first stone of a new church, to be called Christ Church. was laid in Acton-square, Salford. It was originally intended that this church, which is to be built by subscription, should be erected at Islington, Salford; and, as we formerly noticed, Mr. Bateman, of Knypersley Hall, the proprietor of the soil, agreed to dispose of a plot of ground for the purpose upon extremely liberal terms. Before the purchase was finally concluded, however, it was found that the ground was encumbered by some latent chief-rents, which, being in the hands of trustees, could not be bought up, and it therefore became necessary to look out for a new site. A plot of ground, at the extremity of Acton-square, (a new square a short way on this side of Windsor Bridge,) was, at length, obtained, and it is intended that the church shall be erected in that situation.
