New Fire Station Oldham (Architectural Competition)
The Oldham Town Council at a special meeting held last week confirmed the decision of the committee appointed to consider and report on the competition designs recently sent in for a new fire engine station. The first premium of £40 therefore goes to Messrs Potts Pickup & Dixon, Manchester & Oldham (motto “Trio”); the second of £20 to Mr Jas Clegg, Oldham (motto “Agiles”); and the third of £10 to Mr W H Cooke, Oldham, (motto “Always Ready”). The fire station is to be erected at the junction of Union Street and Peter Street on a site adjoining the Reform Club. [British Architect 23 May 1884 Page 253].
