PRESTWICH LIBERAL CLUB - The memorial stone of a new liberal club at Prestwich was laid on Saturday by Mr R N Philips MP and a very large gathering assembled to witness the ceremony. The building, which stands on the main road, is of a free classic design and is expected to be finished in October, the work having commenced some months ago. It will comprise a large billiards room for three tables, as well as card, reading, and refreshment rooms, lavatories, and dwelling rooms for the club steward. There will also be a large assembly room capable of seating 400 people. The cost, including furnishing, will be about £2,500, the money to be raised in £1 shares. The architect is Mr T Thorp of Whitefield. The building is being erected in brick and stone, and is already in an advanced state. [Manchester Guardian 24 June 1878 page 7]
