MANCHESTER: NEW POLICE STATION - A new branch police station has been opened half way between Piccadilly and Great Ancoats Street. It is built of brick with stone dressings. The main entrance is in Friday-street and leads to the charge office on the ground floor, on each side of which the cells are entered. Of these there are five for male prisoners and four for females. They are heated by hot air. At the end of the corridor are conveniences for prisoners washing themselves before being taken to court. All the flooring of the cells is of Val de Travers asphalt. Upstairs there is a parade-room about 40 feet by 22 feet and adjoining it is a small surgery. In the cellar are placed the store-room and a kitchen. At one end of the yard is a mortuary.
