These cottages were a modified version of the second design on Dunkerley’s plan for the Heatly Gresham Engineering Company’s employee housing. They earned themselves the nicknames of Noah’s Ark Cottages or Boat Cottages because of their resemblance to upturned boats. They were built between 1904 and 1905 and are the only survivors of Dunkerley’s original plan for the company. They were refurbished in the 1980s.
