TO BUILDERS AND OTHERS – The Directors of the North and South Wales Bank do hereby give notice that they are ready to receive tenders for the several works required in the erection and completion of Bank Premises in Liverpool. The plans and specifications may be seen, and every requisite information obtained, on application to Edward Corbett, architect, 88 King Street Manchester or 10 Fenwick Street, Liverpool. The tenders are to be delivered at the present offices of the North and South Wales Bank, Cork Street, Liverpool on or before Tuesday 2 April next.[ Manchester Guardian 9 March 1839 page1]

Built on a narrow and irregular site. A writer to the Civil Engineer and Architect’s Journal of 1841 complained that it was “a perfect Burlesque on all correct proportion”, but it was rich and imposing in spite of this.
