Messrs Butterworth & Duncan of Rochdale have been appointed the architects for the new Northern School which is to be built in the Weir district of Bacup for the local education committee. In the preliminary competition Messrs Butterworth & Duncan were awarded the first premium by the assessor. [Building News 26 June 1908].
