The new building adjoins the Union Workhouse and faces Eccles Old Road. It is an elegant structure, and surrounded as it is by its own grounds, its site is a pleasant one. The building is of a commodious character and will accommodate about 70 nurses, whose apartments have been excellently and comfortably furnished. There is also a matron's sitting-room, and a separate sitting room for the sisters and one for the nurses. There are also a visitors' receiving room and a dining room. The estimated cost of the building was £11,832 and the loan of £10,882 acquired for the building is repayable in 30 years and that of £1000 for the furnishings is repayable in 15 years.  The architect was Mr H Lord FRIBA and the builders were Messrs James Daniels and Sons, Pendleton. The nurses were previously accommodated in cubicles at the top of the hospital, and this extra space will now be utilised to secure a classification of the inmates of the hospital.
