MANCHESTER SOUTH JUNCTION AND ALTRINCHAM RAILWAY OPENING OF THE PERMANENT STATION IN OXFORD ROAD - On Wednesday last, 1st May, the permanent station of the Manchester South Junction and Altrincham Railway, in Oxford Street, was opened to the public. The buildings are substantial and commodious, and appear to great advantage when viewed from the lower level of Oxford Street. The building of the station was commenced in July last, the contractors being Messrs Miller and Greenhalgh, of Fairfield-street. The structure is two storeys high; on the first storey are waiting rooms for ladies and gentlemen, the general booking office, a waiting room for third-class passengers, porters’ room,  and kitchen and parlour, for the use of the booking clerks. On the second storey are situated the directors’ room, secretary’s office, general office for clerks etc., and three bed-rooms, belonging to the  residence of the booking clerk. The board room is 24 feet in length, by 18 feet 6 inches in width, and is lighted by three French windows of plate glass. The office for the secretary which adjoins the board-room, and the general office for the clerks, on the same landing, is a large commodious apartment. On the departure side of the line there is a very convenient seated shed, 200 feet in length, under which passengers are sheltered from any inclemency of the weather. The board-room, secretary’s office and the general offices will, in all probability be furnished by Monday next, and from that time the whole suite of rooms will be devoted to the purposes for which they were intended.
