PADDINGTON METHODIST CHURCH. - An interesting ceremony was performed in connection with the Paddington Methodist Church yesterday, when the "stump capping" was performed on the partly erected building. As explained by the Rev W H Harrison, the gathering marked the union of the Primitive Methodist and Wesleyan Churches at Paddington. It was deemed advisable  to have one central church, and the old Primitive Methodist site in Given Terrace was chosen. The church which stood on this site has been removed to another position, and will be used as a Sunday school and for the purposes of entertainment. The Wesleyan Church, which stood near the picturesque old cemetery, at the foot of the hill, has been taken down, part of it being used in the erection of a more imposing new building. On Saturday only the shell of the structure met the eye of the visitor, but the frame immediately suggested that it was intended to support a handsome new edifice. The new building, it is estimated, will seat 400 persons, and the Sunday school has accommodation for 230 children. The whole scheme will necessitate on expenditure of between ,750 and ,800. The ceremony of capping the stumps was watched by several hundred persons
