BARNOLDSWICK - Alterations and improvements are to be made to the Palace Theatre, Barnoldswick, Burnley. Plans have been prepared by Mr Halstead Best FRIBA, 20 Clifton Street, Blackpool. [Builder 29 August 1930. Page 359]

SANCTIONED BY BURNLEY MAGISTRATES. With the Mayor (Alderman H. B. IJ.P.) presiding, the Burnley magistrates last Wednesday dealt with a number applications under the Cinema Act. Mr. Steele, behalf of Mr. James Howley (manager) and Messrs. Herbert Hartley and Willie Holt (the present proprietors the Palace Theatre), made application for alterations, the object of which was widen the entrance, and thus facilitate the exit of a crowded audience. Mr. Steele pointed out that this would a great advantage in case of fire. It was proposed take down two stone pillars and substitute pillars of steel with marble finish. The plans had been approved the Improvement Committee the Town Council, who considered advantage. Mr. Halstead Best, architect and surveyor, 20, Clifton-street, Blackpool, produced and explained plans the proposed alteration. The Chief Constable (Mr. W. agreed that the alterations would be a great improvement," and the magistrates gave their consent.  [Burnley Express 9 August 1930 page 7]
