New Build

Built on the site of the Stockbrook Mill by the Palm Mill Company Ltd.  Opened in June 1885, this was the district's first new wholly ring spinning mill with 80,000 spindles. It was described by the Textile Manufacturer as "an exceedingly fine specimen of mill architecture.” 280 feet by 126 feet. Steel joists and concrete used in the construction of the fireproof and watertight floors. Brick window arches had been rejected in favour of iron lintels bolted between the brick piers at ceiling height to introduce the maximum amount of natural light. Decoration restricted to the corner and staircase towers.

An additional storey was added in 1899 and the cotton store extended in 1913. Production ceased and the mill was demolished 1926-8. The office block remains although now much altered.
