REOPENING OF THE CHANCEL OF LLANDDEWI BREFI CHURCH. On Wednesday last the ancient chancel of the parish church of Llanddewi Brefi was re-opened after restoration, by the Lord Bishop of St. David's. The church is dedicated to St. David-the patron saint of Wales. The chancel is separated from the nave by a square tower. The main entrance is on the northern side. The floor of the nave is covered with the Llanddewi Quarry flag stones, while the chancel is covered with coloured bricks. The nave is filled in with large oblong old-fashioned seats. The windows are filled in with cathedral tinted glass. The roof is open timbered, and is coloured with a light straw tint. The communion table, which is of oak, is placed on a raised platform, and behind it is a reredos made of Bath stone. The altar rails are all of wood, and the chairs in the altar are of carved oak to match the table.  The architect engaged in carrying- out the restoration was Mr Withers, of London, and the builders the well-known firm of Messrs Evans Brothers, of Llandewi-brefi and Aberystwyth.

LLANDDEWI BREFI (CARDIGANSHIRE) —The dilapidated chancel of this church has been restored and reopened by the Bishop of St. David’s, new windows, roof, and floor being added; the expenditure was £500. The works are a continuation of the restoration commenced in 1873 when the tower and nave were completed. The transepts are still demolished and will be the next work to be undertaken. Messrs J. and D. Evans have carried out the whole work; Mr. Withers being the architect. [Builder 29 May 1886 page 797]
