The parish schools of St Michael and All Angels were opened last evening by the Bishop of Manchester. The schools contain accommodation for 450 children and comprise a mixed schoolroom 70 feet by 30 feet, infants’ schoolroom 32 feet 9 inches by 28 feet; infants’ classroom 22 feet by 16 feet; boys’ classroom 22 feet by 19 feet; girls’ classroom 24 feet by 16 feet 9 inches. The site is on Leigh Road, adjacent to the colliery village built some years ago for Messrs Fletcher by the same architect, Mr J Medland Taylor of Manchester.
