PARR HALL WARRINGTON – A new public hall, built at the expense of Mr J Charlton Parr, and presented by him to the Warrington Corporation, was formally opened yesterday. It is intended that the new building shall supply the need that existed in the town for a hall suitable for concerts and meetings of the more important kind, the one which formerly served this purpose having been  within recent times converted to a theatre. The new hall stands on the south side of Palmyra Square, nearly adjoining the gymnasium. The architecture is very simple, but no pains have been spared to adapt the building for the purposes for which it is intended. The large room itself will hold about 2,000 people if needful, but comfortable sitting accommodation is provided for 1,500. It is a very lofty room and with the useful organ transferred from the former hall should be very well suited for musical performances. The galleries pass all around, and the hall is surrounded on every side by a corridor, an arrangement which prevents draughts, and is otherwise convenient. In addition to all this there are the requisite retiring rooms and ante-rooms. The work has been entrusted to a Warrington contractor (Mr R W Collin) from the design of Mr William Owen, an architect of the town.
