SALING MAGNA (ESSEX) - The foundations of the new Parsonage are in, and the whole is to be completed by Michaelmas. It will be of red brick, with black bands and arches, of simple and inexpensive construction. The contract has been taken by Mr. Parmenter, of Bocking, for £987. The first contract for the restoration and enlargement of the parish church is nearly completed: it comprises the entire restoration of the chancel, with a new chapel on the north side of the chancel for school children, and a new vestry. The works have been carried out by the same contractor for £420. The carving is by Mr. H. Earp, of London. It is intended to complete the reseating and restoration of the nave by Michaelmas. Mr. Withers is the architect carrying out these works. [Builder 27 March 1858 page 213]
