Pilkington Brothers Head Office, Grove Street, St Helens

James Medland Taylor designed a new Head Office building for Pilkington Brothers at St Helens, which opened in 1887. It consisted of a large open-plan general office under a domed roof, surrounded by smaller offices for the senior staff and partners. Extensions were added in 1924 by Sir Arnold Thornely and in 1937/8 by Herbert J Rowse. In 1965 the company moved to new headquarters in Alexandra Park, and the old buildings were demolished in the 1990s.
