NEW DISTRICT POLICE STATIONS IN SALFORD – The Corporation of Salford are about to have three new police stations erected in the outlying districts of their borough. One of them will be at Irlams-o’-th’-Height, and a second will be situated near the Cemetery at Weaste. … The third station – one of larger and more pretentious character – is to be situated in Regent Road, at the corner with Dixon Street, east of the Infantry Barracks. It is to have a frontage of 28 yards, and extend backwards to the extent of 20 yards. The building is intended to have good house accommodation for one inspector and his family, one married sergeant, and ten single constables, besides spacious receiving room, and three cells. One corner of the building is to be allocated to the Markets Committee for a weighing machine, the man in charge of which may live on the premises. The plans for all the three stations were prepared by Messrs Royle and Bennett, architects, Princess Street. [Manchester Guardian 16 May 1870 page 3]
