WHALLEY RANGE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH On Wednesday evening the opening service was held in the new building which has been erected for the Presbyterian Church of England, in Stamford-street, Upper Chorlton Road. The church proper, the estimated cost of which is from £6,000 to £7,000, still remains to be erected, and it will stand immediately contiguous to the building which was opened last night, and front the Chorlton Road In the meantime the services will be conducted in what is styled the lecture-hall, which has been fitted up as a church, with accommodation for 400 persons. Within the same building there is a school-room for 250 scholars. The cost of this first instalment of the complete scheme is about £3,000. The foundation stone of the new church was laid by the late Rev. Dr. McKerrow, moderator of the Synod on the 19th November 1877. The newly opened building has been erected from the designs of Mr H. R. Price, architect, Cross Street, in this city, the contractor being Mr. James Herd, of Ardwick. [Manchester Times 19 October 1878 page 6]
