NEW PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL - On Saturday afternoon the foundation stone of a new Primitive Methodist Chapel was laid at Lane Head, Lowton, near Newton-le-Willows, by Mr. Jabez Johnson, of Kenyon Hall. The estimated cost of the chapel is £1,000, towards which £450 has been subscribed. The architect is Mr. R. Owen, of Liverpool. [Manchester Times Saturday 21 August 1880 page 6]

Plans submitted by the architect Mr. Richard Owens of Liverpool, provided details of the proposed new Church as follows: -  the building to be built in the Romanesque style and to seat about 400 worshippers, the dimensions being 56 feet 6 in. by 34 feet and 24 feet high with a gallery running across one end, all the interior woodwork being of pitch pine with a vestry on each side of the pulpit and a commodious singers gallery at the back. The estimated cost of E900 was accepted by the Church officials, and on Saturday, August the 14th 1880, the foundation stone was laid by Jabez Johnson J. P. Esq. of Kenyon Hall. The building work was entrusted to W & H Darbyshire of Newtown, Pemberton.
