Primitive Methodist Chapel, Little Hulton
On Saturday afternoon five memorial stones were laid of a new Primitive Methodist chapel at Little Hulton, near Bolton. The Primitive Methodists have hitherto been worshipping in a building serving as a school and chapel, but their number has so far increased as to render the new structure necessary. It will front Worsley Road, and be built of brick, with local stone dressings, the style being early Gothic and the accommodation being for nearly 400. The cost will be £1,500 and about £500 of this sum has been raised. The architects are Messrs Hazeldine and Mould, Bolton; and the builder Mr J Taylor, Farnworth. CHAPEL, LITTLE HULTON - This chapel (the result of a limited competition) was completed in the commencement of 1884. It is faced with red stock bricks and terra cotta. It contains 390 sittings, and the cost was about £1,600. The design provided for the insertion of galleries over the vestibule and in the transepts at a future date when required, by which the accommodation could be increased to over 600 (and this would greatly reduce the average cost per sitting). Mr. John Taylor, of Farnworth, was the builder. [British Architect 5 February 1886 page 129]
