The foundation stones of a Primitive Methodist Chapel Trafford Road, Salford were laid on Saturday last. The chapel measures internally 62 feet by 41 feet 6 inches, and 33 feet high, being ceiled at collar beam. The number of sittings provided is 470. Seats and all internal fittings will be executed in pitch pine. The elevations to Trafford Road and West Park-street are faced with stock brick, stone strings and mullions etc., from Matlock Baths quarries. The cost will be around £1700. NEW PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHAPEL, TRAFFORD ROAD, SALFORD – The first services in connection with the opening of this chapel took place yesterday. The chapel internally measures 62 feet by 41 feet 6 inches. The roof is framed with hammer beam principals, stained and varnished, and being ceiled at the collar, it has a very lofty appearance. Accommodation is provided for about 470, exclusive of the choir. The seating and all internal woodwork is of pitch‑pine. The style of architecture is Early English, treated in brick and stone. The front elevation to Trafford Road has a five-light window flanked by two three-light windows, all lancet-headed with stone mullions and jambs. Mr Fell, Spring Gardens, has been the architect; and Mr. Gerrard, Swinton, the contractor. The total cost, inclusive of furnishings, will be about £1,700. [Manchester Guardian 19 June 1882 page 8].
