LIVERPOOL - On Tuesday the foundation stone of a new Primitive Methodist chapel and school was laid at Liverpool, in Princes-road. The plan of the chapel is a parallelogram, 75 feet long by 46 feet wide, and the school now stands at the right angle at the back of the chapel, with the entrance facing Beaconsfield-street. The school-room on the ground floor will contain five class-rooms, of various sizes, 28 feet by 13 feet 6 inches. down to 18 feet by 13 feet 6 inches. There will also be a minister’s and deacon’s vestries, etc., and above these there will be a room 70 feet by 33 feet The chapel will have a gallery on two sides, and the ground floor will have seats for 900 persons. The elevations of the schools and sides of chapel will be carried out in brick, with stone dressings. The front of the chapel, tower, etc., will have an octagonal spire of dressed stone 110 feet high. The whole contract has been taken by Messrs. Nicholson and Ayre, for the sum of £6,536, the architect being Mr. Richard Owens. [Building News 2 November 1877 page 446]

Work on the chapel was delayed presumably through lack of funds.In 1885 the Building News recorded:

LIVERPOOL - The memorial stones of a new Primitive Methodist Church in Prince's-road were laid on Wednesday by the Mayor of Liverpool. It adjoins schools and vestries built in 1877  ....  the work will be carried out under the superintendence of Mr. Richard Owen, Westminster Chambers, Crosshall Street, Liverpool (who was also architect for the schools). The total cost the new building, exclusive of land, will be £3,500, the earlier erections having cost £3,000. [Building News 27 March 1885 page 508]
