HALLIWELL - We understand that St Paul's Church, Halliwell, Bolton, is about to undergo considerable enlargement and alteration, at the expense of R H Ainsworth, Esq, of Moss Bank. Plans for the purpose have been prepared by Mr Paley, of Lancaster. [Builder 5 June 1869 page 453]

TO BUILDERS – ST PAUL’S CHURCH, HALLIWELL, BOLTON-LE-MOORS – Persons desirous of submitting tenders for building additions to St Paul’s Church, Halliwell, can see the plans and specifications at the vestry of the church from Monday 17th to Friday 28th instant, inclusive. Bills of quantities can be obtained on application to the architects, Messrs Paley and Austin, Lancaster, on payment of 5s. Tenders to be sent under cover to the architects not later than Saturday the 29th. The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. Lancaster 4 May 1869. St Pauls Church schools and houses were built for John Horrocks Ainsworth in 1847 to the designs of James Greenhalgh.  Details of the proposed additions of 1869 to the designs of Paley and Austin are unclear, and may not have been progressed. No references found in the Bolton papers, or in subsequent records.
