Both Isaac and his father Medland had carried out a substantial amount of work for the company from the 1880s until the start of the First World War, with Isaac embarking in 1909 on a design for a garden village for employees of the Ravenhead Works. The project was abandoned in 1915 because of wartime shortages, but was resumed two years later on a new site – the Eccleston suburb of St Helens – under the direction of the Liverpool architect (Sir) Patrick Abercrombie (qv). It is not known whether any of the planned Ravenhead houses were built. [Richard Fletcher]
