Proposed rebuilding “Oddfellows’ Arms” Hamilton Street, Heaton Norris
Mr W Johnston, solicitor, applied on behalf of Mr. William Robinson, Unicorn Brewery, Stockport, the owner, for a provisional grant to new premises about to be constructed in lieu of the Oddfellows' Arms beer-house, Hamilton Street and Oxford Street, Heaton Norris, for the sale of all intoxicating liquors. The tenant, John Higginbotham, testified to the inconvenient nature of the premises; and Mr. W. A. Gould, architect, explaining plans produced, said it was intended to absorb two adjacent cottages, and there would be 56 yards more space in the new house. Evidence was given as to the great increase of residential property and traffic in the district. The application was refused. [Manchester Guardian 24 August 1897 page 10].
