STOWELL MEMORIAL CHURCH, SALFORD - The congregation and friends of the late Rev. H. J. Meres are about to have placed in the Stowell Memorial Church, Salford. a pulpit, in commemoration of his seven years' work as Rector of the parish. The lower portion of the pulpit will be in alabaster, the design showing one side connected with the wall of the nave, sturdy columns, with moulded bases, being ranged at each short angle, the spaces between each column being bridged over with light tracery, surmounted by overhanging mouldings and a band of carved foliage. The upper structure of the pulpit will be of oak formed into a double series of carved and traceried panels; its crowning member being surmounted by another band of carvings. The cost is being defrayed by subscription. The design of the pulpit is the work of Mr. H. Lord, J.P. architect. [Salford City Reporter - Saturday 3 April 1897 page 5]
