"RAVENSTOR," MILLER'S DALE. DERBYSHIRE - THIS residence is now in course of erection for Mr Matthew Dickie, of Litton Mills, on a prominent site about a mile from the station, off the Tideswell-road, facing the Midland Railway. Externally, the house is being built of Darley Dale stone from the Stancliffe quarries, the general facings being " scutched," the dressings '' polished,'' and the roofs covered with a brindled tile on boarding and felting.   The internal joinery generally to be executed in yellow pine painted Harland's ivory-white enamel, the doors to entertaining rooms, the staircase newels, balusters,  and handrail being  in  polished mahogany. Steel watertight casements are being fitted to all windows and filled in with leaded glazing of simple design where shown. The ornamental heads, downpipes, etc., are being supplied, and the ironmongery generally, in polished copper. The situation being a very exposed one, every precaution is being taken to insure a dry, warm house being secured, and in designing the facades breadth of treatment has been striven for, on the lines and in harmony with the homelike architecture of many Derbyshire houses, all elaborate detail and embellishment being omitted. The total cost, including laying out the grounds, etc., will be about £4,000. Messrs. Cox, Wilson, and Sons, of Ashford, near Bakewell, are the contractors for the works throughout, and  Mr G. H. Willoughby, FRIBA, of Parr's Bank Chambers, Manchester, is the architect.
