Rebuilding “Hare and Hounds” Inn 65 Bramble Street Coventry
In evidence given to the Licensing Justices in support of the removal of the licence of the “Hare and Hounds,” Far Gosford Street, to new premises in Bramble Street Walter Herbert Hattrell, architect, said he was one of the lessees of the Far Gosford Street which included the Hare and Hounds. They were developing that estate considerably. It contained Bramble Street, Vecqueray Street, and Grafton Street, and it was proposed to bring Brick Kiln Lane to Binley Road. No doubt in time a large number of houses would be built upon the Brick Kiln Lane site. In Bramble Street there were 38 houses all occupied. 15 were course of erection, and there were plans for more and space for an additional 108. In Vecqueray Street there were 30 occupied houses, and 10 in course of erection. Between 200 and 300 houses could be built upon the Brick Kiln Lane site. An entirely new estate was being opened up. There were five fully licensed houses within 150 yards of (the existing) Hare and Hounds. The lessees were under covenant to rebuild the Hare and Hounds, spending at least £1,000 upon the site. The site of the proposed public-house in Bramble Street was 220 yards from the nearest licensed premises. There was no opposition to the removal. [Coventry Herald 10 February 1905 page 5]
